Who runs this site

Global Finds is a personal, independently run website publishing metal detecting and archaeological discoveries. You can contact the site owner by email, or through the submission form.

What we collect

If you submit a find

The submission form asks for a name or nickname, an optional email address, and the details and photographs of your discovery. We store what you type, along with your IP address. The IP address is kept only to limit how many submissions one person can send in a day, which keeps spam off the site.

Your name or nickname may be published alongside your find. Your email address is never published and is used only to contact you about your submission.

If you just read the site

We do not ask you for anything. Our web host keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses and are used for security and troubleshooting.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file stored by your browser. This site uses them in three ways.

Advertising and analytics cookies are only set if you accept them. If you decline, the site works exactly the same and you will still see our own booked adverts.

At the moment this site sets no advertising or analytics cookies at all, so there is nothing here for you to accept or decline. If that changes you will be asked before anything is stored.

Third parties

Find pages link out to the news outlets and museums that reported a discovery. Those sites have their own privacy policies. Maps are drawn using OpenStreetMap, and embedded videos are served by the video host, so those providers will see your IP address when that content loads.

Affiliate links

Some links to shops on this site are affiliate links, which means Global Finds may be paid a small commission if you buy something after following one. It costs you nothing, and it never affects which discoveries we cover or what we say about them. Those links are marked where they appear, and they pass through this site first so we can count the clicks — we record only the total number of clicks on each link, not who clicked it. The retailer's own privacy policy applies once you arrive on their site.

How long we keep things

Published finds stay on the site indefinitely, because they are the site's content. Submissions that are rejected are deleted. IP addresses attached to submissions serve only the daily limit and are removed when a submission is deleted.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see what personal information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Email us and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Find locations

We deliberately publish approximate locations only. Please never send us the exact coordinates of a sensitive archaeological site. In England and Wales, finds that may qualify as treasure must be reported to your local Finds Liaison Officer.
