Finland's largest known late Iron Age coin hoard found at Sysmä

A detectorist near Sysmä in southern Finland has found the country's largest Viking Age coin hoard: about 4.5 kilograms of silver coins, split between two birch-bark containers.

The Republic of Ireland is different again, and severely so. Searching for archaeological objects without the Minister’s written consent is a criminal offence carrying fines or imprisonment, and the definition is broad enough to cover coins, buttons and buckles of almost any age.
