The Golden Stag of Tápiószentmárton: Scythian art found folded beside an ancient hearth
In 1923 an archaeologist digging on a Hungarian estate found a crouching stag of thin gold and silver alloy, folded up and hidden beside a hearth. It is one of the finest pieces of Scythian art in central Europe, and a symbol of the Hungarian National Museum.
